How do I request an extension to file my business entity's tax return?

California grants all income and franchise taxpayers an automatic extension of time to file a tax return, it’s paperless. Under California law, business entities in good standing with the California Secretary of State are allowed an automatic extension to file without the need to file a written request if its tax return is filed within the extension period. Taxpayers are allowed either a six-month or seven-month extension depending on their original due date. For corporations, the automatic extension is seven-months. Once a business entity is suspended or forfeited, the business entity no longer has any rights or privileges and they are not allowed an extension.
